Thomas Lewis Johnson: Similarities/ Differences with Frederick Douglas

Similarities


* Both became Freemen.


* Both men traveled to Ireland.

* Thomas's mother instilled in him the importance of learning how to read and write. Douglas learned how to successfully read and write.

 * Both men found religion.



 

Differences  

* Thomas Lewis Johnson was freed under the Emancipation Proclamation. Johnson did not attempt to escape slavery. Frederick Douglas ran from slavery to gain his freedom.
